Historic town

Doesburg boasts a large number of historical monuments and listed buildings and was officially designated a historic town in 1974. Did you know that Doesburg was granted city rights in 1237, a full sixty years before the same honour was conferred on Amsterdam? Local residents are understandably proud of this fact! The city's location at the point where the Oude IJssel and Gelderse IJssel converge explains its strategic importance down through the centuries. The Martinikerk, with its 94-metre-high tower, is a clear reminder of the city's prosperity in days gone by. There are more than 150 monumental buildings in the town centre. History in all its glory!

Musterd museum

Down one of the town's many lovely side streets you will find Doesburg's famous Mustard Factory. This unique factory is now a museum that attracts over 10,000 visitors each year to see how the town's famous mustard was made. Of course, there are many other cultural activities, such as expositions and concerts, to be enjoyed in the other museums, galleries and studios as well.

Hanzefeesten and Cultural Sunday afternoons

Doesburg's town centre plays host to many cultural events and festivals throughout the year, such as the Hanzefeesten, Doesburg Bruist and Doesburg Binnenste Buiten. And every Sunday afternoon, Doesburg is transformed into the cultural capital of the region.

Doesburg - the perfect starting point

Fancy staying overnight? You can book a room in the Stadshotel Doesburg or in one of the many B&Bs housed in the town's historical buildings. There are also camping sites nearby and even a harbour for yachts. Doesburg is the perfect starting point for walking or cycling routes through the surrounding countryside. The city borders the Achterhoek, Veluwe and Liemers regions, all of which are within shouting distance.
